Today, November 8, at the Hayden Burns Library in downtown Jacksonville at 4:40 pm, a new technology start-up plans to unveil its proprietary software and hardware that will wirelessly deliver hi-speed Internet, Voice-over IP phone service and Wireless Digital TV for a third of the costs of traditional cable or satellite companies.

The recent FCC ruling releasing “white space” comes at an excellent time for the start up. Using technology it perfected in the open expanses of Belize, where infrastructure simply didn’t exist, the company plans to roll out the technology starting in Jacksonville, FL.

One of Ringtails’ first customer will be a low-income public housing complex in Jacksonville, FL, Hollybrook Homes, run by Lynn Griffin.

“Hollybrook Homes is led by a progressive thinker in Lynn Griffin who has a track record of success in integrating technology into lower income households, and the positive impacts that leads too, “by connecting the complex, we will bring more opportunities for learning.”

Ringtail’s mission is to bring the Internet, VOIP phone service and Wireless Digital TV to the under-served, wherever they are, and for whatever reason. Their initial target markets include inner cities, rural America and anywhere around the world where traditional service is problematic, or cost-prohibitive.  Ringtail currently has received interest from seven countries, including Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Ukraine and Belize.

While laying physical fiber and cable is expensive – ”Our fixed costs are much lower. And that allows us to connect customers at a much lower price point”, says Chris Chaleki, Ringtail’s Chief Technology Officer.
